Energy Modeling to Optimize Building Design, Construction Practices, and Future Operations
Energy modeling enables project teams to forecast a building’s energy consumption and evaluate cost-effective, energy-efficient design strategies before construction. Using tools such as EnergyPro, CBECC-RES, CBECC-COM, IES VE and Ecotrope, we support code compliance and green building requirements while optimizing real-world performance. By leveraging 2D and 3D design files, we translate project data into actionable insights that help teams set energy performance targets, compare design alternatives, and make informed decisions.
VCA Green’s Certified Energy Auditors (CEA) and Certified Energy Managers (CEM) manage the full modeling process with technical rigor and a deep understanding of CA Title 24, IECC, and ASHRAE energy code. Unlike traditional compliance-focused modeling, we integrate constructability, first-cost analysis, and long-term operational performance to drive better project outcomes—delivering construction cost savings of $200K to $1.5M for clients. We also bridge design and operations by tracking actual building performance post-occupancy and providing ongoing optimization services such as retro-commissioning (RCx) and energy project management. As energy codes become more complex and jurisdictions increase scrutiny of energy models, our approach ensures projects are not only compliant, but fully optimized for performance, cost efficiency, and long-term value.
